The Week's cool stuff

As a challenge to our current Saatchi and Saatchi interns, they have been sending me cool things they see on the internet. If I've seen them I get a point, and if I haven't they do- the winner buys the drinks (the challenge shamelessly stolen from @on_jay). Here are some of the ones I hadn't seen. The winner will be announced at the end of the week.

Skills = Views. The Power of Awesome

This video was featured over on the Three Billion blog, and we felt it was worth posting here too. Its a great bit of skills-based awesomeness and as such is the perfect viral, if we are to believe the New York Times research that the most shared stories "inspire awe". It has been done before, but it is a good move for Head, and indeed Andy Murray, who gets to show his previously-hidden fun side.

Awesome thing of the week

The latest bit of Nike awesomeness is Nike Grid; a sort of Foursquare/ Nike + mashup. Basically Nike have laid down the challenge to race between phone- boxes in your area, checking in by dialing a unique number. Postcodes are pitted against each other all over London, and are given points for every person completing a run.

I love it because it not only plays into an existing traditional of postcode pride and amateur athletic competition, but it does it in a completely untechnological way. They could have used Nike + but by using phone boxes it becomes universally inclusive. It also effectively lets you race other locals and track your running times- exactly what you can do if you buy Nike +.

It launches on Friday 24th April, and there is more info over at Contagious. So get your trainers ready and good luck beating Tom G and I; the lightening fast E2 team.

The awesome Internet

Sometimes things come along which remind you why you love the internet. The creativity it has unleashed, as well as the latent anarchism and weirdness, restore my faith in humanity. So here is a list of some of the most surreal, brilliant and down-right awesome aspects of the web. I'd love for people to add their own below too.

Chat Roulette - As Danah Boyd says, it is a "reminder of ye-olde internet culture" of anarchism and random connections. There is also a second helping of Merton  piano improv to enjoy.
